During the ordering process of the Swiss digital annual vignette, you can select the "publicly visible" option. This selection allows you, after completing your purchase, to check the validity of your license plate via the Via Portal of the Swiss toll provider BAZG - in case you're unsure whether you still have a valid toll product.
To change the "publicly visible" option for the Swiss digital annual vignette, open the homepage of the Via Portal from the Swiss toll provider BAZG or click the link. in the top right corner, you'll find the ticket icon; click it to start the process. Then select the "Import" option and enter the reference number of your vignette, which is noted in the receipt.
After entering the number, a pencil icon will appear next to your reference in the transaction overview; click it to begin the change process. Here you can select the setting "Change public visibility". In the next step, adjust the option as desired and confirm the change by clicking "Save". This successfully updates the visibility setting.
In Switzerland, you need a separate valid digital annual vignette for each vehicle with a maximum permitted weight of up to 3.5 tons. So if you are driving into Switzerland with a car and an additional trailer, you will need a digital annual vignette for both the car and the trailer. Trailers pulled by motorcycles do not require an additional annual vignette.

If you change your vehicle but keep the same license plate, the digital annual vignette remains valid automatically. However, if you change both the vehicle and the license plate, you must purchase a new digital annual vignette.
Since 1985, the use of Swiss motorways and expressways has been subject to a toll. The Swiss toll provider BAZG uses the revenue from the toll exclusively for the maintenance and expansion of the motorway and expressway network.
The BAZG charges a toll for motor vehicles with a maximum permitted weight up to 3.5 tons and for trailers in the form of an annual vignette. Vehicles over 3.5 tons are subject to a heavy vehicle fee.
In Siwtzerland, only annual vignettes are available. They are valid from December 1 of the previous year until January 31 of the following year. The vignette is valid immediately upon purchase; you cannot choose the start date freely. The following examples illustrate the validity of annual vignettes:
Purchase date: November 30, 2024 -> Valid until January 31, 2025 (purchase of the 2024 annual vignette)
Purchase date: December 1, 2024 -> Valid until January 31, 2026 (purchase of the 2025 annual vignette)
If you want the digital annual vignette to be valid for the next year, we recommend waiting for December to make your purchase. This way, the product will have the longest possible validity period.
There are no short-term vignette options in Switzerland, such as 1-day or 10-day vignettes. The vignette is available both as a digital vignette and as a sticker version. You can conveniantly book a digital annual vignette for Switzerland via the ADAC toll portal.
In Switzerland, you need an annual motorway vignette to use most motorways and motorway-like roads marked with white-green signage.
